Inside the justice gap: A new study examines the struggle for fairness in Baltimore’s rent court

In spite of almost 150,000 rent collection cases and a resulting 7,000 evictions annually in Baltimore, policymakers know little about the people losing their homes or the obstacles they face inside “rent court.” Surveying 300 renters over the past year, the Public Justice Center and the Right to Housing Alliance partnered with the Abell Foundation to address questions critical to the court’s reform: Who are the people defending against eviction?
